First round of NCHSAA 4A men’s soccer playoffs for the Spartans was an intense game for the Spartans and the Huskies. SV made the drive to William Amos Hough High School on Halloween night to end their season with an 11-8-3 record.

“It was a competitive game. We fought pretty hard, [but we] had some good shots in the first half that [did not] fall,” senior defender Caiden Macfarlane said.

The first half ended with a score of 0-0. There were minimal injuries and no cards awarded to either team in the first 40 minutes.

“The boys played well, the boys fought all the way through,” assistant coach Jordan Beighle said.

Returning to the field, Hough had their first goal on SV in the 27th minute. In a gamble with time, the Huskies scored again with 20 minutes left in the half, making the score 2-0.

The Spartans kept their heads up for senior striker Issac Jost to score and put the Spartans on the scoreboard. The Huskies did their job, attempting to run down the clock and SV fought for the chance to secure another goal. The Spartans failed to score again to tie the game, and the boys will not be continuing to the second round.

“We did everything we were supposed to do; we just didn’t score. That’s soccer though. I don’t like losing, but I’m very satisfied with the way we played,” head coach Kash Knight said.
