For centuries, the fashion industry has taken inspiration from the art of ballet. From Dior’s 1947 “New Look” collection, which featured soft romantic designs, to brands such as Vivienne Westwood contributing, the viral aesthetic “Balletcore” seems to be turning heads.
Balletcore is an aesthetic that takes inspiration from femininity and ballet. Besides being prevalent in high-fashion, social media apps such as TikTok give guides on how to dress the style.
“I get my inspiration from Pinterest,” junior Siana Naravez said.
Garments such as satin headbands, wrap details on shirts, leg warmers, bodysuits, and ballet flats are a part of Balletcore.
“I own some Balletcore pieces, like pink bows,” Naravez said.
High-end brands such as Dior and Miu Miu particularly have this style, while retail brands such as Urban Outfitters and Garage make the style easily accessible.
“[Stores like] Goodwill have Balletcore, as well as my mom’s closet which has silky dresses,” senior Vivian Hazelton said.
Ballet is believed to be the epitome of elegance by many; its soft aesthetic has received positive feedback by many.
“I love the color palette. Everything about it is just beautiful and delicate,” Hazelton said.
