Having clinched the series victory and looking to complete the sweep against rivals Porter Ridge, varsity baseball faced off with the Pirates at home to close out the three game series on April 26, 2024.
The Pirates started the game off hot with a solo home run early in the first inning, giving them a 1-0 lead. Porter Ridge continued the momentum racking up a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
SV started to slice down the lead with a run scored in both the fourth and sixth inning giving them a chance in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
Porter Ridge however, had other plans as the Spartans came up just short with a final score line of 4-2.
Despite the loss, SV still won the three game slate two to one. The Spartans will now face the Pirates in the conference tournament on April 29, 2024 at Cuthbertson High School with a chance at redemption and a spot in state playoffs on the line for both sides.
